Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day·NOV 25th

Spending Halloween carnival, the first long holiday of this year is coming! On the fourth Thursday of November, Thanksgiving arrives as scheduled. To all international students, who would you most like to thank for this year's Thanksgiving?

Their Celebration, The History of Thanksgiving Day

THE HOLIDAY ORIGIN

Tracing back to the origin of Thanksgiving, the story begins in 1620 when the Mayflower was loaded with Puritans who could no longer bear the religious persecution in England and arrived in America. The English Puritans, who were new to the region, were unable to adapt to the local environment and faced great difficulties in life. The kind-hearted Indians provided them with the necessities of life and taught them how to hunt, fish, and grow corn and pumpkins to avoid suffering from hunger and cold.

The new immigrants invited the Native Americans to participate in traditional religious festivals and celebrate the harvest in gratitude for their sincere help. At first, such celebrations were only held in Massachusetts. During the War of Independence from 1777 to 1782, multiple colonies celebrated Thanksgiving together to celebrate the victory of the war. Over the following hundred years, many states began celebrating Thanksgiving, but their dates of celebration varied.

Later, at the joint suggestion of Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Josepha Hale, people celebrated together on the last Thursday of November each year. In 1863, President Franklin Roosevelt announced that the last Thursday of November would be designated as "Thanksgiving". In 1941, President Roosevelt officially signed a congressional resolution declaring the fourth Thursday of November as Thanksgiving.

The customs of Thanksgiving

CELEBRATION IN U.S.

Initially, people held three consecutive days of harvest celebrations in what is now Massachusetts. The immigrants invited the Indian tribe to a grand banquet, entertaining guests with wild turkeys and various types of chicken, duck, fish, and meat, as well as corn, green fruits and vegetables, and dried fruits. The guests of the Paniag tribe also brought various wild game sharing feasts. Since then, eating turkey has become a traditional custom on Thanksgiving.

China has "Double Eleven" and the United States has "Black Friday". The second day of Thanksgiving is Black Friday, which is the grandest shopping festival of the year. After the Thanksgiving dinner, millions of Americans will go shopping on the streets, hoping to save some money to continue the Christmas shopping next month.

THE NICE HOLIDAY Corn Game THU 11/23

In the face of food scarcity, the government provided each immigrant with five pieces of corn to overcome the difficulties, which gave rise to this game. At the beginning of the competition, five people quickly peeled corn kernels into a bowl. Whoever finished peeling first won the prize. Then, those who did not participate in the competition gathered around the bowl and guessed how many corn kernels were inside.
